Permissions and legal status

Officials allowed Høiby to visit the late King in hospital before his death on Aug. 28 and he has permission to attend the state funeral on Sept. 9. In June he was sentenced to four years after convictions that included two counts of rape and received a two-year restraining order; he appealed and was moved to house arrest in July after months in custody during a high-profile trial involving numerous charges.

Family statements and the Queen's recovery

Høiby holds no royal title, is not in the line of succession and has never been a working royal. The Royal House said his parents hoped to support him during this phase. Queen Mette-Marit, who underwent a successful lung transplant in June, missed a memorial service on Aug. 30 but returned for the procession and has publicly thanked donors and her care team.
