Holmes asked whether Kim had requested a scale-back of joint drills after Trump said he had spoken with the North Korean leader. The president defended his relationship with Kim, saying they understand one another and insisting he gets along with the North Korean leader better than others did.
When Holmes followed up, Trump loudly cut her off, called her disrespectful in front of teenage honoree Ryder Williams and repeatedly ordered her to be quiet, dismissing CNN as "fake news." Holmes identified herself as a CNN reporter but continued to press the question.
