The idyllic scenery of Tenerife has been marred by a heartbreaking incident as an enormous wave claimed the lives of four tourists and left one person missing off the coast near Los Gigantes. Initially, authorities confirmed three fatalities before the grim toll rose with the discovery of another victim.

The tragedy unfolded shortly after 4 PM in one of the island’s popular natural pools in the Santiago del Teide area. Visitors, both on the rocks and in the water, were caught off guard when a colossal wave crashed in, dragging them into the depths. Emergency services reported that multiple individuals were swept away by the rushing waters. Among those affected were believed to be foreign tourists, as reported by Diario de Avisos.

Rescue efforts included a maritime rescue helicopter, which managed to save one person but tragically retrieved another who had already passed away. Initially, the deceased included two men and a woman, aged 35 and 55, respectively. A fourth victim, also female, had been resuscitated and was airlifted to a hospital, but sadly did not survive her injuries. As of now, it remains unclear if any German nationals were involved.
