Bajrakitiyabha trained as a lawyer in Thailand and earned advanced degrees at Cornell. She served at the Thai Mission to the UN, worked as a public prosecutor, was ambassador to Austria (2012–2014) and became a U.N. goodwill ambassador, helping push the adoption of the "Bangkok Rules." Her reform work focused on rehabilitation for incarcerated women.
