This episode adds to a string of PR problems: ABC suspended Kimmel after his remarks about the fatal 2025 shooting of activist Charlie Kirk, and many affiliates briefly refused to carry his show. That blackout reportedly cost the network viewers, ad revenue and affiliate goodwill.
According to sources, Kimmel's deal runs through May 2027 and was reported at about $15 million. Insiders say ABC bought itself time with that contract and may opt not to renew if the backlash continues and ratings remain soft.
